Sound Design for AO Racing and Mobil 1: Rockie the Pegasus
This was a bucket list item for me.
I got to do sound design for AO Racing and Mobil 1's Rockie the Pegasus spot. The whole thing is this slow reveal: Rockie flying over cities, landing on the racetrack, the race flag coming down, and then when the flag comes up you finally get the actual car reveal.
The car itself doesn’t move. The cameras move around it while the music plays loud as hell, so the sound design had to live in the transitions and make the reveal hit harder without fighting the track.
My favorite part is the drop. Right at the escalation before the music comes in, I used the pop from a champagne cork. The reverb from that pop carries over the drop, then the song slams in with this revving engine “wuu” sound while the camera zooms fast right up to the car.
